Access to ACER research can help the learning profession remain highly skilled, knowledgeable and engaged in excellent practice.
ACEReSearch, maintained by the Cunningham Library, is an online, publicly accessible, searchable and free repository. As Katie McDowell, a Librarian in the Information, Collection and Organisation section of the Cunningham Library, explains, ‘It’s not just about open access, though; it’s also about grouping and linking research in useful categories, like higher education, say, or vocational education, but because it’s an archive of ACER-related research our categories also refer to ACER research areas like policy analysis and program evaluation, Indigenous education, transition and the like.’
The secret to making the ACEReSearch repository really useful, says Katie, is integrating it completely into the Cunningham Library’s processes. ‘Everything that goes into the repository goes into the catalogue, and the Australian Education Index and its sub-categories.
‘Making that happen is a total team effort. It’s the result of lots of conversations and emails with all my colleagues in the Cunningham Library.’
In doing that, Katie explains, there’s plenty of two-way traffic. ‘I’ll email, “Have you seen this report?” with a link, and equally I’ll receive an email about another report. All of us in the Cunningham Library are in frequent contact. We have to be multi-focused as we’re really multi-tasking to manage the constant flow of information.

‘It’s one of the ways ACER provides educators with research to support their evidence-based interventions and strategies.’
