ACER Press has long provided high quality assessment instruments and resources used by professionals in the areas of childhood development, counselling, special education and psychology. In this tradition we are now offering a range of resources for use in the assessment and observation of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
In recent years the perception of Autism has changed with a greater awareness that a single diagnosis is limited and that patterns of behaviour fall into three key areas: communication, social interaction and imaginative thought. Hence the more accurate term now favoured is Autism Spectrum Disorder. This disorder covers a range of diagnostic labels from ‘Asperger’s Syndrome’ and ‘High Functioning Autism’ at one end to ‘Autism’,‘Classic Autism’ and ‘Kanner Autism’ at the other.
Having a suitable range of instruments to aid diagnosis is critical in the development of accurate reporting.
We would like to draw your attention to a number of instruments now available including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), which is considered a “gold standard” internationally for the screening of autism disorders.
Please don’t hesitate to call us if you have any queries regarding these instruments or any other products in the broad range of ACER catalogues.

Autism Detection in Early Childhood - ADEC
Dr Robyn Young
ACER Press
Autism Detection in Early Childhood (ADEC) is an extremely effective, validated screening tool for identifying autism and autistic tendencies in children as young as 12 months. Until now, autism has typically gone undiagnosed in younger children due to a lack of awareness of the behaviours that can indicate autism in preverbal children. ADEC clearly identifies and details these behaviours. Those at risk can be screened and referred for a more formal diagnosis, enabling much-needed support at an early stage of development - an important contributor to successful intervention.
