The Australian Council for Educational Research is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, founded in 1930. ACER’s mission is to create and promote research-based knowledge, products and services that can be used to improve learning across the life span.
ACER research work is organised into seven programs. ACER's work also includes fee-for-service testing programs. Tests, books and other materials are published and sold through ACER Press. The ACER Institute provides a range of professional learning seminars and manages ACER's annual Research Conference. ACER’s Cunningham Library is a large specialist education library which also manages the Australian Education Index.
ACER funds and manages the ACER International Student Scholarship. Selection of the AISS recipient is based on performance in the International Student Admissions Test. ISAT is produced by ACER.
