Engagement Forums

Two engagement forums have been convened for the development of AMAC. The first was in May 2011 and the second in May 2012. Further events will be included on this page as AMAC hosts additional forums in the future.

First AMAC Engagement Forum - May 2011

The National Assessment Forum, hosted by The University of Queensland (UQ) School of Medicine was held on May 24, 2011 and attracted senior faculty from every medical school in Australia and some international schools, as well as representatives from the Australian Medical Council (AMC), Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and the American National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).

The primary purpose of the forum was as an engagement workshop for a national assessment project - ‘Developing the Foundation for a National Assessment of Medical Student Learning Outcomes’ - a collaboration between UQ, Monash University and ACER, and funded by the Australian Learning & Teaching Council.

A theme introduced by Professor David Wilkinson (Dean, UQ School of Medicine) and further developed by guest speakers and delegates, is that medical schools share many common challenges including:

  • achieving consistency, fairness and standardisation in assessment
  • resourcing the significant investment required to develop high quality assessment
  • finding suitably qualified and experienced staff with assessment expertise

Second AMAC Engagement Forum - May 2011

The second AMAC engagement forum was held on June 5, 2012 hosted by The University of Queensland (UQ) School of Medicine. This forum involved attendees representing most medical schools in Australia as well as key stakeholders such as the AMC, MDANZ and the OLT. The day provided the opportunity for updating participants on the progress of the project, dissemination of some of the results from the piloting, in-depth discussion of the AMAC Assessment Framework, and debate about what the future of AMAC might look like and what medical schools hope to gain from the collaboration.
