Along with other leading nations, Australian higher education is moving into an era placing greater emphasis on measuring student learning outcomes, and on using results for monitoring and continuous improvement. This calls for assessment resources that yield valid and reliable data, and that are efficient to implement, analyse and report.
The Higher Education Assessment Collaboration (HEAC) offers the opportunity for higher education teachers, academic coordinators and institutions to collaborate with leading international assessment experts at ACER to develop high quality, robust and relevant assessment items through a series of ‘assessment workshops’ hosted in collaboration with existing discipline networks.
These workshops involve active discussion, review and development of existing materials in line with course objectives. Participants are encouraged to bring along a small selection of sample test/examination materials to anaylse and facilitate peer review. They focus largely on first-year courses however some consideration may be given to second year studies. Resulting materials and ideas can be used in examinations, clinical assessments, lab assignments and class tests.
