Format
The test comprises a 30-minute English ability test and a 30-minute Maths ability test based on Australian secondary school year norms. No pre-requisite knowledge is required to sit the tests and candidates are not expected to complete all 80 test items.
The English ability test assesses

- Grammar
- Punctuation
- Spelling
The Maths ability test assesses
- Number
- Measurement
- Space
- Chance and Data
A choice of levels is available based on Year 8, Year 9 or Year 10 norms.
Assessment of apprentices is mostly conducted using the Year 9 normed tests.
