PAT-Maths and PAT-Reading Data Supplements

ACER has recently conducted a number of large scale research studies that involved the assessment of Young Primary students on various tests of literacy and numeracy.

This has yielded data that allows us to provide extra information, particularly relevant for PAT-Maths (3rd Edition) and PAT-Reading.

Numeracy

Norms and Scaled Scores for Years 1 & 2 on PATMaths Test A and Test 1, which were previously unavailable. This allows PATMaths users these Tests to assess students in Years 1 & 2.
I Can Do Maths! (ICDM) scores scaled onto the PATMaths scale, allowing users of ICDM, a test of numeracy from Prep to Year 2, to continue progressive testing on PATMaths.

Literacy

Norms and Scaled Scores for Prep, Years 1 and 2 (first, second and third years of schooling) on the PATC (Reading Comprehension) Scale using the RPT.
This enables you to conduct progressive testing and monitoring of reading achievement from Prep to Year 9, transitioning from the RPT in the early years of school to the PAT-R Comprehension tests for the later years of school.

Play Matters

Play Matters by Kathy Walker was launched at ACER Press Bookshop, Camberwell by Mary Bluett on 8th November.

Play Matters provides information, examples and practical strategies for classroom teachers wishing to explore and
implement the Developmental Curriculum (play and project based curriculum) into the learning environment. It emphasises that learning is much broader and richer than just literacy and numeracy and is focusing parents, teachers and children on the ‘whole’ child. Aimed at early-learning and primary school staff, Play Matters provides examples describing experiences of schools using the play and project based approach as well as strategies for how to implement the approach.

Jousting for the New Generation

Jousting for the New Generation by David Loader was launched at Melbourne University Bookshop by Principal Bruce Armstrong of Balwyn High School.

David Loader addresses a range of contemporary issues in education, and encourages critical dialogue about prevailing educational cultures. These 'jousts', as he calls them, are challenges to the status quo, written to encourage verbal repartee, argument and counter-argument. Dipping into Jousting for the New Generation is intended to inspire the reader and generate spirited discussion.
