Advisory Committee

Terms of Reference

The ACER Constitution makes provision for an Advisory Committee on Indigenous Education (ACIE). The Committee is an advisory committee of the Board of Directors.

Role of ACIE

The ACIE exists to provide members of the Board and senior management with expert advice on strategic directions for educational research and on ways of enhancing the value and impact of ACER’s research. It is expected that the Advisory Committee will provide members of the Board and senior management with expert advice on:

  • the areas of aboriginal education most in need of research;
  • ways in which ACER expertise can be put to best use in these areas;
  • emerging research opportunities;
  • groups of individuals with whom it may be useful to make contact or collaborate in research; and
  • possible sources of research funding to achieve these objectives.

In undertaking this role, members of the Committee may wish to review ACER’s current research program; provide advice on ways of enhancing the organisation’s research capabilities—including suggestions for strategic research partnerships; and provide advice on how ACER research findings might best be disseminated to have greatest impact.

Membership

The membership of the Advisory Committee on Indigenous Education is determined by the Board of Directors. Members are chosen to ensure wide state and territory representation as well as representation from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The members of the Advisory Committee on Indigenous Education serve a term of three years with the possibility of a further term of three years. The Chair is appointed by the Board and serves a three-year term.

Meetings

The Advisory Committee meets once or twice a year in either June or November. The Chair of the Advisory Committee conveys ACIE advice to the Board at the next meeting of the Board of Directors. ACER meets members’ travel and accommodation costs to attend these meetings.
