Principal Research Fellows

An opportunity exists for three well qualified people to join the Educational Monitoring and Research Division at ACER at the level of Principal Research Fellow (PRF) or higher.  Specifically, we are looking for people in the areas of Indigenous Education; Vocational Education and Training, and Teaching and Learning.

Each PRF will head up a research hub at ACER and work with internal staff and external partners to further develop research programs and create opportunities for new funding. The successful candidates must have a strong track record in their respective area and have a passion to lead the research undertaken in these areas at ACER.  Demonstrated capacity to work internationally in the relevant field would be highly regarded.

Candidates must have a higher degree, preferably a PhD, an established record in undertaking and publishing educational research in their field of specialisation, outstanding communication and project management skills, and a sound understanding of research methodologies. The Indigenous PRF should have strong community and research links in Indigenous Education and bring these networks to enhance ACER’s capacity and contribution to Indigenous Educational Research and Development.

All positions will involve high level planning, leadership and management, and development of relationships with key stakeholders.

The PRF – Indigenous will work with staff across ACER and external partners to further develop Indigenous learning research program. The position will involve leading research and creating opportunities for new funding to support improved teaching practice in school education.  Focus/areas of research could include (for example):

  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Indigenous ways of learning
  • Culturally contextual teaching
  • Early childhood education
  • Engagement in schools
  • Post school transitions

Demonstrated capacity to work internationally in teaching and learning research would be highly regarded.

The PRF - VET will work with staff across ACER and external partners to further develop the VET research program.  The position will involve leading research and creating opportunities for new funding.  Focus/areas of research could include (for example):

  • Interactions between VET, the labour market and other education sectors
  • Outcomes of participation in VET
  • Development of the VET workforce
  • Costs and financing of VET
  • Teaching and learning in VET

Demonstrated capacity to work internationally in VET research would be highly regarded.

The PRF – Teaching and Learning will work with staff across ACER and external partners to further develop the teaching and learning research program. The position will involve leading research and creating opportunities for new funding in school education.  Focus/areas of research could include (for example):

  • Teacher education and professional development
  • Teacher workforce development
  • Teaching standards
  • Teacher assessment
  • Pedagogy
  • Students with learning difficulties

Demonstrated capacity to work internationally in teaching and learning research would be highly regarded.
