Masterclass

Program

The International School Leadership Masterclass will commence at 9.00am, with registration from 8.15am.  The Masterclass will finish at 4pm.  Morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch are provided.  Lunch will be from 12.30-1.30pm.

This Masterclass is designed to model what the workshop leaders will be sharing and helping us explore about leadership, innovation, thinking, and building performance cultures. John Edwards has done research on what children are thinking whilst teachers are teaching, and what audiences are thinking whilst presenters are presenting. So, this will not be a day of talking heads. Bill Martin has refined and refined his understanding of school leadership through living it, and distilled some of that essence into leadership challenges and insights. Neil Carrington specialises in the innovative use of new technologies and methodologies to create interactive learning environments. These will characterise our day together.

You will be introduced to powerful models, skills and processes and have the chance to test these against your real settings and your leadership experiences. This will help you to focus on the strengths in your leadership repertoire and clarify your areas for growth. Practical leadership innovations from around the world will be shared.

Many leadership questions will be addressed during the day, including:

  • Most organisations hardly scratch the surface of what their staff have to offer, how can we be different?
  • How do the best organisations get leadership distributed right through their people?
  • Where should my energy, creativity and intellect be focused?
  • Should schools experiment with their "core business"?Girl_smiling
  • How can we best build internal capacity in our school?
  • Can talkers turn into doers, and if so, how?
  • What do I steal from my staff and students?
  • What kills growth and learning in a school?
  • What leads a staff to speak with one mind and one voice?
  • Where do I draw the line?
  • How can research impact our school reality?
  • If it is so clear to me, how come it is not so clear to others?
  • Where should my energy be focussed?
  • If I can do this job in my sleep, why am I still doing it?
  • Where is the "me" in my leadership?
  • What makes a leadership team?
  • Do we really address the realities of our lives in schools?
  • What mental models make the difference?
  • What do I believe makes learning/education deep and powerful?
  • How can I ensure that this Masterclass is not a "one shot" exercise for me?
Our Masterclass leaders will work interactively with each other and with us. They will create a learning environment around leadership that will challenge and support each other, as well as us in our leadership roles.
