29 October 2012: Winners in a statewide creative arts competition were announced at the launch of the ‘I love learning’ calendar on Saturday, 27 October. The competition for children in primary schools and in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) invited young Western Australians to create artwork that shows what they love to learn.
The ‘I love learning’ competition was created by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and the PMH Foundation, with judging by the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
First prize winners in the ‘I love learning’ competition are:
“ACER’s mission is to improve learning, and the ‘I love learning’ creative arts competition effectively illustrates this mission,” said ACER Chief Executive, Professor Geoff Masters.
“It has provided learners across WA with an engaging, challenging and real-world learning opportunity to create art for the ‘I love learning’ calendar.”
ACER received entries from more than 2000 students in schools from Bunbury to Broome.
All profits from the sale of the ‘I love learning’ calendar (RRP $15) will go directly to the PMH Foundation to help the PMH support children and their families.
“ACER does incredible work in the field of educational research and not only will this calendar be supporting their work but, through the PMH Foundation, it will also be helping to provide much needed research and equipment to WA’s only children’s hospital,” PMH Foundation CEO Denys Pearce said.
Winners and high commendations will be presented with awards at the launch of the ‘I love learning’ calendar at 2:00pm-3:30pm on Saturday 27 October 2012, at Stitches Megazone, Telethon Theatre, Princess Margaret Hospital, Level 7, Harry Boan Building (main building) Roberts Road, Subiaco WA 6008.

The ‘I love learning’ calendar can be purchased from the ACER Bookshop, 7/1329 Hay Street, West Perth WA 6005, or by contacting bookshop@acer.edu.au
