Experienced consultants will be on hand to discuss your specific needs. We invite you to join us for free short information sessions which will run during the day on a series of interesting topics. As our guest, you will be for eligible for special discounts only available for the duration of the EXPO. Visitors to this expo will receive at least 10% off everything (excluding assessments).

Getting to the ACER Expo

By Car
There is ample 2hr parking at Woolworths Camberwell (57 Station St, Camberwell). Simply cross Prospect Hill Rd, and enjoy a 2 minute walk to the end of Railway Pde. Alternatively, there is all day parking at the The Well Centre access from Harold Street. Early Bird (Level 3) $7.00 per day or $9.00 per day on other levels. http://www.thewellatcamberwell.com.au/

Dr Rhonda Farkota - Direct Instruction (DI) - Math Mastery Series: Elementary Math Mastery (EMM) & Junior Elementary Math Mastery (JEMM)

Dr Rhonda Farkota is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research. She has directed a wide variety of projects at international, national, state and system levels. With 28 years’ experience as a teacher and curriculum adviser, Dr Farkota has long been recognised as one of Australia’s foremost experts in Direct Instruction (DI). In 2008 she was specially seconded as Assistant Director of Australia’s National Assessment Program (NAPLAN™). Her doctoral research into DI, mathematics and self-efficacy was described by Professor DH Schunk, Dean of Education University of North Carolina, as an outstanding thesis on a topic of great theoretical and applied significance.

Rhonda will present on the benefits of Direct Instruction in classrooms specifically with the Math Mastery Series, highlightling both Elementary Math Mastery (EMM) and Junior Elementary Math Mastery (JEMM).

Marian Power

Marian has extensive experience in the field of assessment and management. This includes working as a psychologist with the Commonwealth Public Service Board, the Public Transport Corporation and the City of Melbourne. She has written A Quick Guide to Human Resource Testing – a reference guide for HR practitioners who use or plan to use assessment instruments.

Marian provides advice to psychologists on selecting the most appropriate assessment instruments for their needs. She also runs workshops providing accreditation training in the use of restricted tests. Marian is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the College of Organisational Psychologists, the Australian Association for Psychological Type and the Career Development Association of Australia. She was a member of the Victorian Psychologists Registration Board from 2001–3 and is currently a sessional psychologist member of VCAT.

Marian will present on why Majors PTI is better than MBTI and Online assessments - what is available and how to access measures for Psychology practitioners.

Maureen Pollard

Ms Maureen Pollard is a teacher, literacy consultant and publisher. She has worked with many schools both in Australia and internationally helping teachers to understand the importance of teaching phonemic awareness and phonics in a language rich curriculum. Her passion is to ensure that children are taught the skills of literacy in the early years in a fun, focused and fast paced teaching style. Maureen’s publications include SoundCheck, Sylvester Syllable Game, Milo’s Birthday Surprise and Little Learners Love Literacy program.

Maureen will present on both the Sound Check and the Little Learners Love Literacy program.

Julia Inglis - PATMaths 4 and TORCH 3 – New editions so what’s different?

Julia Inglis is an Education Consultant with ACER Press. Julia has extensive secondary teaching experience and has held a range of school leadership roles. She has also worked extensively in the educational publishing area before joining ACER. In her role with ACER Press, Julia has conducted many workshops related to literacy and numeracy assessment. In addition to conducting workshops, Julia provides advice to schools about selection of ACER assessments and programs, attends key national and state conferences and liaises with prospective authors to facilitate publication of resources for education professionals.

Julia will discuss the additions and benefits of the new PAT Maths 4 and TORCH 3.

Mette Hoeyberg - Online School Assessment

Mette Hoeyberg has worked for ACER since 2008 with her primary area of responsibility being online assessment in schools and vocational organisations. Ms Hoeyberg has coordinated the technical development committee of Online Assessment and Reporting System (OARS). Mette has experience in delivering a variety of online educational solutions for a wide range of clients in Australia and overseas.

Mette will provide a free demonstration of ACER's new Online Assessment and Reporting platform highlighting key features including: taking tests, managing students and reporting.

Blair Heading

Blair has gained valuable experience as a psychologist in both the education and health sectors in Victoria. Blair has worked within a multidisciplinary private practice in Melbourne in the Schools Unit at Catholic Care. He has recently worked as a Student Support Service Officer with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Blair has also worked in the Developmental Disabilities Clinic at Monash Medical Centre where he administered clinical assessments and provided intervention. He has developed expertise in the child and adolescent field using cognitive and behavioural assessments. Blair has also facilitated group therapeutic programs for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. He is a Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Blair will be presenting on the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL).

Ms Leanne Eames is Senior Project Officer in the in the Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation program at ACER and a member of the Tender Bridge team. In her role within Tender Bridge, Leanne is in regular contact with school teachers and leaders about their needs and experiences in fundraising. She is also undertaking postgraduate studies in philanthropy.n Tender Bridge is a subscription service for schools that gives subscribers access to a dynamic searchable database of funds that schools can apply for, either independently or in concert with another organisation/s. Education-related grants, scholarships and sponsorships from business, philanthropy, universities and government (at all levels) are sourced and updated weekly, with alerts sent to your inbox every Monday. Subscribers also qualify for discounts to our professional learning in the areas of grant-seeking and partnering with other organisations to resource school needs.

Leanne will offer a half-hour free tutorial to walk participants through how to get the most out of the Tender Bridge funds database.
