This project is being conducted jointly by ACER and the Australian College of Educators. It is intended to provide a detailed picture of the Australian teacher workforce, and to gather information to assist in future planning of teacher supply. It has two main components. The first is a large-scale online survey, Staff in Australia’s Schools (SiAS), involving random samples of Government, Catholic and Independent school teachers and leaders and teachers from all States and Territories. The survey was designed to help fill key data gaps and to more fully characterise the teaching profession in Australia. It commenced in October 2006 and will conclude in April 2007. The second component involves consultations with key stakeholders around Australia on data needs and strategies for more long-term planning approaches.
