The Western Australian Monitoring Standards in Education program (WAMSE) has run for a number of years. Currently, ACER produces population tests in Western Australia for years 5, 7 and 9 in Science and in Society and Environment. In addition to information provided to individual students on their performance, the assessments for each discipline are equated longitudinally to provide information on the progressive development of the subject for the use of the WA Department of Education. The questions are based on authentic contexts of relevance to the age levels being examined and in the case of Society and Environment include information from coloured magazines and documentary video evidence supplied by DVD.
