The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), in partnership with the New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER), is conducting a project for the New Zealand Ministry of Education to assess the feasibility of undertaking multivariate analyses of available data to investigate the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting student achievement. In the first instance, ACER and NZCER have been contracted to consider the viability of estimating the effect magnitudes of these factors in accounting for variation in student achievement outcomes, the aims of which are to:
* identify potential methodologies for the multivariate analysis that allow for gaps in the data, changes in policy frameworks and the variability within schools;
* identify the feasibility of undertaking analysis of subgroups; and
* identify whether PISA achievement and school context data can be included in the analysis.
