Jakarta International School has a population of about 2700 on three campuses. English is the language of instruction throughout the school, with almost all of the students coming from the expatriate community. JIS has contracted ACER to help in its work of aligning assessment practices with curriculum and pedagogy. The initial one-year contract was extended for a further year in 2002-3, continuing the focus on Language Arts/ English at the primary and middle-school levels and moving into articulation with the high school English program. The contract entails site visits to conduct workshops in Jakarta with faculty members, as well as assessment development and consultancy via email and telephone. Since site work was disrupted by political events during 2002-3, the on-going work for 2003-4 will pick up on some of the unmet deliverables (design of assessments for reading, writing, viewing, speaking and listening for middle and elementary schools) as well as focussing on curriculum review and design with the High School English faculty.
