The development of an optional computer-based assessment of science for PISA 2006 has been successfully completed. Items have been developed and translated for a field trial in several countries, including Australia, which was conducted in 2005. The aim of the computer-based option is to add value to the paper-based assessment of scientific literacy which is also being trialled.
