The New Basics curriculum is currently in its fourth trial year in selected schools throughout Queensland. ACER has been contracted by the Assessment & New Basics Branch of Education Queensland to collect student achievement data in order to monitor progress of students in these schools, over an eight month period during 2003. ACER’s International Schools’ Assessment (ISA), which comprises reading, mathematical literacy and writing instruments, was selected by Assessment & New Basics for the purpose. About 13,000 students - Year 3, 6 and 9 students in all New Basics trial schools, in a matched group of non-trial state schools, and in a similar number of independent schools - will be administered the assessments in March and November 2003.
