The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority commissioned ACER to undertake a review of aspects of the statewide assessment program: Assessment and Improvement Monitor (AIM). The review reported on the quality of the AIM assessments and marking keys used in 2001 and 2002, including an evaluation of the reliability and validity of the tests as summative instruments; on the information reported on AIM performance to parents and to schools; and on the methods used to develop and mark those parts of the 2002 and 2003 tests that cannot be marked by computer. The report made recommendations on improvements that could be made in the areas of test design, parent and school reports and marking processes.
