The Teacher Education Study in Mathematics (TEDS-M) study is comparing approaches to preparing future teachers of mathematics in twenty countries. Since the last quarterly report, data collection has begun for southern hemisphere countries. This includes surveys of future mathematics teachers nearing the end of their training as well as surveys of their university teacher educators and course coordinators. Mr Ray Peck has been refining test instruments in mathematics knowledge and providing training scorers from participating countries. Dr Lawrence Ingvarson and Dr Glenn Rowley have been refining survey instruments and research design, and assisting with sampling issues in participating countries. Data gathering in northern hemisphere countries has taken place in the first half of 2008 in 16 countries.
