Research Conference 2003
Building Teacher Quality: What does the research tell us?
19 - 21st October 2003 Carlton Crest Hotel, Melbourne
This conference brought together key researchers, policy makers, school administrators and teachers, to review and discuss research that suggests answers to a number of critical questions, including:
- How does teacher evaluation improve the effectiveness of teaching?
- What do we know about developing and validating professional standards for teachers?
- Are there links between the development of professional standards and attracting, preparing and retaining quality teachers?
- What does the research tell us about links between teacher remuneration and teacher performance?
In the past few years there has been increasing activity in Australia in relation to the development of professional standards for teaching. There has also been a keen interest in the policy issues that need to be addressed if all students are to be provided with highly qualified teachers. The program for Research Conference 2003 included three major plenary addresses, and will feature Australian and international speakers and respondents in keynote papers and panel sessions.
