- reporting on educational issues relevant to Australia
- providing a perspective on the relevance of assessment materials for Australia
- producing national reports with a focus on Australia's standing in an international context
ACER is currently working on the third cycle of the OECD PISA study. The Field Trial for this assessment took place in May 2005 and involved four states: Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Australia also participated in the Field Trial of the optional Computer-based Assessment of Scientific Literacy.
The main PISA 2006 assessment was undertaken from July to September 2006. Participating students completed an assessment booklet which contained questions from the major domain (scientific literacy) and one or more of the minor domains - mathematical literacy and reading literacy.
A national report was released on 4 December 2007.
