About Dr Gabrielle Matters (Consultant)

BSc UQ, AMusA QCM, PhD QUT, FACE
Dr Gabrielle Matters was Principal Research Fellow (Assessment and Psychometric Research) at ACER and Head of ACER in Queensland until 2016. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Education at the Queensland University of Technology and a previous Executive Secretary of the International Association for Educational Assessment.

Gabrielle has had extensive experience within the Australian education sector including senior executive roles at the Queensland Board of Studies and the Queensland Department of Education. While employed at ACER from 2005, she provided high-level advice to governments and undertook research, evaluation and development activities in the Middle East, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Colombia, India and Pakistan, Tajikistan and Ethiopia.

Her areas of expertise include senior assessment and university entrance processes, criteria- and standards-based assessment, the identification and testing of cross-curriculum skills, statistical and social moderation, curriculum-based examinations, the underachievement of boys, and the management of innovation. Gabrielle’s special interest is the design and review of curriculum and assessment systems.
