Mr Harding is a Research Fellow in the Assessment and Reporting research program at the Australian Council for Educational Research.
In the maths/science/generic skills area, Mr Harding manages scholarship testing programs (CSTP, SST and PSP), HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test), AST (Australian Capital Territory Scaling Test) and GAT (General Achievement Test), as well as working on SAHSET (NSW Selective High Schools Test) and medical entrance tests such as UMAT (Undergraduate Medical Admission Test) and GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test), international student tests, vocational selection tests, and other similar tests for use interstate and overseas.
Previously, he has worked on the national PSAP project (Primary Science Assessment Program), the national SEAR project (Science Education Assessment Resource) which he completed as Project Director, the PISA 2006 project (Program for International Student Achievement) in both traditional and computer based assessment formats, and was Manager of Science Test Development for the MSE9 Western Australian Science statewide testing program.
Before joining ACER, he taught at government and independent secondary schools in Victoria , holding senior curriculum and administration positions, and teaching Physics, Mathematics and Science. He has been a VCE Physics assessor with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), and is an author of six Victorian Physics texts and teacher resource materials, two New South Wales Physics texts, five Science texts (including student and teacher CDroms), a Forensic Science text, and three CDroms covering Physics text material, item banks and diagnostic questions.
He has tertiary qualifications in Physics, Mathematics, Literature, Economics and History, and postgraduate studies in education which specialise in assessment, psychology and administration.
