About Dr Ling Tan

Dr Tan joined ACER in 2006. Dr Tan is currently a Senior Research Fellow at Psychometrics & Methodology Program of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). His current research interests include developing service-oriented item bank, computerised adaptive testing algorithms, and applying statistical learning and data mining technology to educational assessment and evaluation. Dr Tan has practical experience in psychometric and statistical data analysis, educational measurement construction and validation, data quality control, database management, and interactive reporting solutions. He has the role of lead psychometrician in Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Pre-Registration Assessment, and Australasian Survey of Student Engagement (AUSSE). He has shared responsibility for scaling, statistical analysis, data cleaning, and report development in a number of national and international testing programs, including ACER NAPLAN Central Analysis Project between 2008 and 2010, International Students Assessment (ISA) between 2006 and 2012, Brunei National Study of Student Competencies in Mathematics and English (NSSCME) in 2008 and 2010. He also assisted the analysis and reporting for Literacy and Numeracy National Assessment (LANNA) in 2006 and 2007. In addition, he contributed to ACER work in developing interactive reporting tools, which have been used in projects including Data Interpretation Service, Data Club of Southern Metropolitan Region, and RMIT Academic Promotion Review. Most recently, he contributed in developing ACER’s online reporting tools.
