Dr Malcolm Hunt is a Research Fellow in the Assessment and Reporting research program at the Australian Council for Educational Research.
He develops items for, and is involved in the organisation of projects concerned with university entrance. Some of these tests measure general ability, eg. the Victorian General Achievement Test (GAT), the Australian Scaling Test (AST), and the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); while others measure the more specific attributes required for entry to medical and health related courses, the Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT) and the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test (GAMSAT) and its counterpart for the UK.
Dr Hunt previously worked on the Annotated Work Samples for the Victorian Curriculum and Standards Framework (CSF II) and is currently directing a project on Middle School Assessment.
Before joining ACER, he taught at various secondary schools in Victoria, the last being Melton Secondary College. He has taught Year 11 and 12 chemistry, physics and mathematics, as well as science and mathematics to junior classes. In 1990, he was selected as an International Teaching Fellow and taught at Westminster High School, Colorado, USA. He has been associated with the Chemistry Curriculum Committee of the Victorian Board of Studies/Curriculum and Assessment Authority for many years as both a member of the HSC/VCE Examining Panel and as an assessor of the VCE Chemistry examinations. He is the author of two study guides for the new ( accredited to 2004) VCE Chemistry Units 3 and 4, "Industrial Chemistry" and "Supplying and Using Energy".
He has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Melbourne.
