Ms Nicola Andrews is a Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research. She commenced work at ACER at the beginning of 2009 as part of ACER’s test development team in the Assessment and reporting division and is currently working on a large scale national numeracy assessment project involving item development, interpretation of psychometric data and test construction principles. As part of this item development process Nicola has conducted Cognitive Laboratories and Class Pilots with children in school settings. Nicola is familiar with the Mathematics Online Interview, the Victorian Mathematics Continuum and the Indicators of Progress. She has recently developed a Key Concepts/‘Big Ideas’ in Numeracy resource for the ACER mathematics team and is part of a team evaluating Diagnostic Numeracy Tools for DEEWR. Other projects Nicola is working on include the International Schools Assessment, the International Benchmark Test and the Online Placement Instrument.
Prior to joining ACER, Nicola was the Head of Mathematics at Melbourne Grammar School, Grimwade House. She has 6 years experience teaching Mathematics and Literacy in classrooms ranging from Junior to Upper Primary levels. She completed her Masters of Education in 2007, specialising in Language and Literacy. Nicola is a Councillor for the Mathematical Association of Victoria.
