Dr Nola Purdie is a Principal Research Fellow and Coordinator of Indigenous Education Research and Development at the Australian Council for Educational Research in the Learning Processes Research Program. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the Queensland University of Technology.
Previously, Dr Purdie was a Senior Lecturer (Research Methods, and Educational Psychology), and Director of the Centre for Cognitive Processes in Learning at Queensland University of Technology. Prior to commencing a career in educational research, Dr Purdie worked in State, Catholic, and Independent schools in Western Australia in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities for over twenty years.
Her research interests span several areas. She has researched extensively across a range of Indigenous issues, including research in English literacy and numeracy, Indigenous languages, Indigenous linguistic codes, identity and self-concept, school participation and retention, employment, and disability. She was the 2003 recipient of the Australian Association for Research in Education Award for Excellence in Indigenous Research. Nola also has an extensive history of teaching and researching in the area of people with disabilities and learning difficulties.
Dr Purdie’s work has been published widely in academic and professional journals. She has authored several textbooks and chapters in textbooks and regularly reviews work for publication in journals and books. She is the author or co-author of a number of government reports.
Dr Purdie is experienced in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and procedures including longitudinal research, evaluation methodologies, survey design and analysis, and interview and focus group techniques. She has extensive experience in consultations with Indigenous people and stakeholders at government, community, and individual levels, and in the development of policy recommendations based on research findings.
