Mr Peter McGuckian

Mr Peter McGuckian is the Director of International Development at the Australian Council for Educational Research.

He is responsible for policy and strategic advice to the Executive Director, the development of corporate objectives for the internationalisation of ACER's work and developing a focus across the organisation on international opportunities.

After training at the University of Melbourne in agriculture and education Mr McGuckian taught science and agriculture in a Victorian country high school before gaining experience in international development work, including nine years in Papua New Guinea teaching in a senior high school and the agricultural education and training system. On return to Australia, he worked with ACT TAFE prior to joining IDP Education Australia in 1986. He established the Australian Education Centre in Jakarta in 1987 and developed systems that were used to expand the marketing of Australian study opportunities. He served fourteen years with IDP Education Australia including seven years as head of IDP's office in Indonesia.
