About Dr Ross Hudson

Dr Ross Hudson, BScEd Melb, MSc, PhD Curtin was a Research Fellow (Test Developer) in the Assessment and Reporting research program at the Australian Council for Educational Research. After joining ACER in 2008 Dr. Hudson worked on assessment programs including; PAT Science (Progressive Achievement Tests in Science), ISA (International Schools Assessment), PISA (Program for International Student Assessment), IBT (International Benchmark Tests), the ASI Rio Tinto Big Science competition and the UAE NAP science testing program for the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Hudson also played a key role in the development and management of items for the Monitoring Standards in Education (MSE) for the Western Australian Education Department. His work included item writing, selection of student response exemplars and conducting coder-training sessions with West Australian coding staff.

Dr. Hudson managed the development of the Indian Progressive Achievement Scales(IPAS) with the ACER New Delhi office. This scale will provide Indian teachers with the ability to measure individual student development by utilising a series of normed assessment tools.

Prior to joining ACER, Dr. Hudson had considerable experience in Government, Private and Catholic schools in Victoria teaching mainly Chemistry, Science and Mathematics. He has had extensive experience in senior management positions in these schools holding the positions of VCE Coordinator, Science Coordinator and Director of College Operations. He has also worked with the Victorian Board of Studies in developing, trialling and marking of Chemistry common assessment tasks.

Dr Hudson’s Doctor of Philosophy degree from Curtin University was in the field of Chemistry assessment.
