Mr Sam Hambur is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research in the Assessment and Reporting research program.
He is the manager of the Generic Skills Group within the Mathematics/Science team. He has worked predominantly on tests of generic skills, including longstanding tests such as the Victorian General Achievement Test (GAT), the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) and the Australian Scaling Test (AST), for which he was Project Director.
More recent test development has focussed on tests such as ATISS (a test of reasoning skills in English and Chinese), ISAT U (for selection of overseas applicants into Australian universities) and MSAT (a medical entrance test in the UK).
He has been Project Director (Test Development) for the Graduate Skills Assessment test project and the Stage One Validity Study of that project. In addition, he is the principal author of the Biology component of the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test (GAMSAT).
Mr Hambur’s research work includes factor analytical studies of various cross-curricular/generic skills tests.
Prior to joining ACER in 1991, he worked as a Hospital Scientist and then as a secondary teacher. He is co-author of a series of senior Biology textbooks.
