About Dr Sarah Buckley

Dr Sarah Buckley, BSc (Hons), PhD Melb is a Senior Research Fellow in the Educational Monitoring and Research Division at ACER, with a particular research interest in motivation and emotion in learning. Dr Buckley’s research expertise in this area includes her PhD, which investigated mathematics anxiety and motivation, and peer relationships using social network modelling. Dr Buckley is also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Science of Learning Research Centre (SLRC), a Special Initiative of the Australian Research Council, in which ACER is a major partner. Dr Buckley leads the SLRC project examining mathematics anxiety in pre-service primary teachers from education, psychology and neuroscience perspectives.
 
As a member of the Australian Surveys team at ACER, Dr Buckley has worked on a number of large-scale international assessments including the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Progress in International Reading Study (PIRLS). Dr Buckley has also been part of several projects involved with policy evaluation, including contributing to a report for the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group in Australia, and others focused on Indigenous Education.
