Dr Steve Holden

Dr Steve Holden is the Publishing Manager – Journals in ACER Press in the Australian Council for Educational Research.
He is the Editor of the monthly Teacher magazine and of the quarterly Professional Educator. He is also the Managing Editor of the Australian Journal of Education.
Beginning his professional working life as a teacher in 1985, he moved into fulltime journalism in 2000. His core objective is to write and publish content about education for the profession that answers two questions at the philosophical and practical extremes: as an educator, why do I do I what I do; and what should I do first thing of a Monday morning?
He has received numerous awards for journalism, including the 2006 Australian Council of Deans of Education (ACDE) Print or Electronic Media: Best Commentary/Opinion/Critique award, the ACDE Print Media: Best Feature high commendation in 2004 and the Australian Council of Educational Leadership Media Award in 2003.
His fiction writing has been published widely and he has won awards for fiction, including the Alan Marshall Short Story Award and the Sunday Tasmanian and FAW-Tasmania Writers’ Award in 2006, and the ABC Radio National Short Story Award in 1995. He has also received grants for writing from the Australia Council and the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board, twice.
