Mr Martin Murphy

Mr Martin Murphy is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research in the National and International Surveys research program. 

Since 2000, he has managed field operations and sampling activities related to the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) project. He is responsible for the preparation of key documents and manuals including the PISA National Project Manager’s Manual. He leads a team of staff that have drawn school samples for participating countries for the PISA Plus, PISA 2003 and PISA 2006 projects.

Mr Murphy has managed a number of projects, including the Queensland Literacy and Numeracy Statewide Testing Program. He maintains the ACER Sampling Frame and designs and selects samples for educational research projects, including national assessments in Civics and Citizenship, Science Literacy and ICT Literacy, and national norming exercises for the ACER Progressive Achievement Tests in Mathematics and Reading, and Middle Years Ability Tests. He calculates sampling weights and undertakes variance estimation work for complex survey designs.
