Percentile Rankings

Institutions often request information on the percentage of candidates receiving scores below a certain STAT score (referred to as percentile ranking). For example, a candidate with a STAT score of 160 had a percentile rank of 76.3 in 2004. Therefore, this candidate had achieved a higher score than 76.3% of the test-taking population over the last six years.

Percentiles have remained very stable since the introduction of STAT, but changes in the candidate population may be expected to occur over time, shifting the percentile curves. For example, changes in Government policy may encourage new or different sectors of the community to return to study. However, the STAT score will remain comparable as it is anchored between test forms and years.
