ACER Mathematics Assessment for Students (AMAIS)

What is AMAIS?

The ACER Mathematics Assessment for Students (AMAIS) is an online diagnostic test designed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

AMAIS assesses the mathematical knowledge of students seeking entrance to University Foundation Year[1], University Preparation and Tertiary Enabling programs in preparation for tertiary study.

AMAIS provides useful diagnostic information in the form of individual and group reports and has been developed to assist with the placement of students into appropriate Foundation Year and Tertiary Enabling program mathematics streams.   

AMAIS is a valid and secure assessment tool that assesses competency in six broad content areas:

  • Algebra
  • Geometry and Measurement
  • Functions and Graphs
  • Number
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Rates of Change and Calculus
