The Competence in English as a Foreign Language Assessment is a testing program linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The CEFR was designed to facilitate the mutual recognition of language qualifications across Europe to facilitate educational and occupational mobility, and is increasingly adopted in the development of national curricula and for the purposes of comparing language qualifications across borders. For details on the CEFR, refer to Council of Europe's website.
The CEFLA is a school-based test with four levels corresponding to four of the six CEFR levels:
CEFR Level A: Basic User
A1 Breakthrough
A2 Waystage
CEFR Level B: Independent User
B1 Threshold
B2 Vantage
CEFLA has been successfully sat by students in the Czech Republic beginning in 2009.
Currently existing as a reading and listening comprehension test, speaking and writing components are being developed.
