The tests are in multiple choice format.
Taken as a whole, the CEFLA tests students' comprehension skills with a view to providing teachers with information on students' linguistic, pragmatic and socio-linguistic competences.
The test is organised into two sections:
Listening and reading comprehension that comprise
- A set of questions at each level that test students’ skills in understanding both specific and global meaning
- texts on a range of text types, language functions, linguistic complexity and topics appropriate for the levels
- texts that draw on the personal, public and education domains
