ELSA takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and provides a comprehensive evaluation of 4 different English language skills:
Reading:
- separate reading comprehension units
- topics cover a range of difficulties and subject areas
Test Time: 20-35 minutes
Writing:
- student types text onto a screen
- student report provides printout of writing
- students writing is compared to a sample of more than 300 exemplars within a scale ranging from low to intermediate levels
- the piece of writing is scored immediately by the system
Test time: 10-15 minutes
Listening:
- audio soundbites delivered via the web
- candidates will listen to different accents encountered in the real world
Test time: 10-15 minutes
Grammar:
- cloze exercises assess key grammatical structures
Test time: 5-10 minutes
