The Higher Ability Selection Test – Primary:
- Assesses higher order thinking skills rather than general ability
- Assesses students at levels above their chronological age
- Ranks students against their higher achieving/gifted peers within each cohort
- Discriminates more finely at the top end of performance than standard general population tests
- Can confirm teacher and parent observations of student abilities
- Gives students, teachers and parents formal, impartial evidence of student abilities
- Helps schools to determine which students should be included in differentiated curriculum or enhancement programs
- Gives schools a means to further investigate students who perform highly in general population tests
- Compatible with HAST testing in secondary schools both nationally and internationally
