Online assessment and reporting

What are the features of ACER online tests?

Tests are delivered over the internet, scoring is automatic and reporting is available as soon as candidates complete their assigned test.

What are the advantages of online tests compared to paper and pencil tests?

Online tests are more cost and time effective because there is no need to purchase materials, send answer sheets for scoring or spend time marking. Instead time can be spent viewing and analysing results and preparing targeted teaching programs.

How do I find out more about the different tests available?

Visit Tests available, then select the test from the list provided. This will take you through to details of test content, cost, reports, etc

How does my school pay for online tests?

Payment can be made through a school purchase order number or by school credit card. Orders should be placed via the online registration system rather than faxed.

How do students complete tests?

Each student will require access to a computer connected to the internet. In general, once you have decided which test(s) you wish to purchase, the process is:

  • Student details are uploaded onto the school test website by the test administrator
  • The test administrator assigns a test to each student
  • Students log into the test with a unique user name and password (which may be created by the test administrator, or sent by ACER, depending on which test is being conducted)
  • Students will then have access to complete the test. The test administrator should keep a record of the time the test commenced and follow the administration instructions in the user guide for time allowed (the system will not automatically time the test).

Note that each test has a User Guide which contains complete administration details.

What happens if my internet connection drops out while students are completing the test?

Students will be able to continue the test from the last question completed when the internet connection is restored. They will need to log back in with the same user name and password to resume the test.

How do I generate reports?

When the tests have been completed, reports can be generated immediately within each testing platform, with the exception of the Attitudes and Values Questionnaire, the School Life Questionnaire and the Social-Emotional Wellbeing Survey. Reports for each of these surveys are produced by ACER. To view examples of reports, select the particular test from Tests available.

What are the technical requirements for using ACER online tests?

  • Your web browser should be the only program running on the computer at the time of the test. Exit all other programs before students start the test.
  • Use the navigational tools provided within the test system (for example the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ buttons), not the navigational tools in the web browser toolbar.
  • The speed of your internet connection will determine the number of students who can sit a test at any one time. Below is the suggested maximum number of students suitable for simultaneous administration of ACER online tests based on different internet connection speeds.
