National Awards for Quality Schooling 2008

Project Director: Dr Lawrence Ingvarson

The National Awards for Quality Schooling (NAQS) were introduced for the first time in 2003 to support, encourage and reward excellence in schools. The national awards celebrate the achievements of Australian schools, teachers, principals and school support staff.

The awards recognise and reward teachers, principals, and support staff who, in their different ways, make an exceptional contribution to their school community and outcomes for students.

In collaboration with the Australian College of Educators, ACER managed all stages of the assessment process. Staff from ACER's Teaching and Leadership Research Program developed guidelines for preparing applications and detailed criteria for assessing them, trained the judges in the use of the criteria to assess applications and managed the judging process overall.

ACER also conducted the system in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
