Thank you very much for participating in the 2012 University Experience Survey.
The feedback you have given in this survey helps universities and government improve students’ experience at university. The questions you answered measure how active and engaged you are in learning, the support you experience from teachers and university, and the degree to which you report developing skills and knowledge.
Below is a summary of the results from the 2011 University Experience Survey.
2011 Summary Report
In 2011, responses from students across Australia told us that:
• around 95 per cent of students ask questions or contribute to class discussions
• around two-thirds of students often work with other students as part of their course
• only around half of students interact with peers outside class
• three-quarters of students received at least some support to settle into study
• around 75 per cent of students felt their teachers engage them in learning
• just under two-thirds said that teachers stimulate them intellectually
• around 80 per cent of students feel some sense of belonging to their university

As shown in the graph, the vast majority of students rated the overall quality of teaching they had experiences as 'good' or 'excellent'. Most students (around 90%) said their study improved their knowledge of the field, and also that it improved work-related knowledge and skills such as verbal communication skills. But results do vary across courses, institutions, student groups and people, and this is why your response really counts.
Your feedback is being used by universities and governments to improve the student experience by:
• Enhancing lectures, labs and tutorials
• Recognising and rewarding good quality teaching
• Providing information to students about university study
• Improving libraries, computer labs and student spaces.
The national University Experience Survey is being conducted in 2012. Your feedback is important. Please email ues@acer.edu.au with any suggestions for improvement.
