Administrative Officer, International Development
Laura took on the integral Reception role at our Melbourne office in early 2007. Laura’s welcoming smile and friendly approach quickly saw her become the “face of ACER”. With a growing desire to learn more about project management, Laura was sought by our growing International team. Her great staff rapport and client focus are now also being enjoyed by our Dubai and New Delhi offices.
Let’s get to know our international celebrity a little better…
So Laura, what do you do in your role?
LS: I coordinate the administrative aspects of work done by the International Development team, both for internal and external clients. I oversee the day-the-day administrative operations and act as a point of liaison for all enquiries relating to International Development at ACER, including work with Aus AID and the Education Resources Faculty (ERF).
What do you love most about your role?
LS: Working with people and the challenge of my role. I get to meet with new and potential clients, as well as our numerous international visitors.
People at ACER are friendly, fun and very open. It makes it very enjoyable to come to work each day.
HR Helper: Well, it’s very fun working with you too! It’s no surprise you’re also on the ACER Social Club and the staff-appointed Chairperson!
What are some of the challenges of your role?
LS: Every day brings a new challenge, as this is a new role that I am growing into. Having moved from my role at reception, which I was in for 5 years, it provides me with new challenges, responsibilities and another opportunity to grow.
How did you end up in your current field?
LS: I started my career in real estate, working on reception and focusing on property management. I moved to ACER in 2007 to take on the role in reception. The International Development team approached me about a new role early in 2011, which I eagerly accepted. I am also looking to further my experience by returning to uni to focus on developing my skills in project management.
How would you describe ACER, its culture and its people?
LS: It’s a relaxed, but professional corporate environment. The organisation is always moving, going through change and transition, but the people are always the same – welcoming and happy to see you.
It’s also a great place to work because we have great facilities.
When you’re not busy enjoying life at ACER, what keeps you occupied? Any hobbies?
LS: What don’t I do?!
I enjoy grabbing a coffee with friends, walking my 5 year old Beagle, breaking my iPhone, relaxing with a good book or watching a really soppy girly movie with a box of tissues and some chocolates.
HR Helper: Work hard and relax hard - I like it!
